Board Meeting Minutes - September 13, 2008

The meeting was called to order by President Joe Lightowler at 9:02 am at The Pub.

Board members present: Blattenbauer, Busch, Erdle, Hansen, Hushka, Lightowler, Olson, Pung, Roth, Shaw, Tschritter, and Wilson.

Minutes of the June 21, 2008 Board Meeting were approved as emailed.

Treasurer Greg Pung reported a balance of $26,006.73. He reported a $102.00 profit on the directory and a $1600.00 deficit on towel and mug sales.

A Cola report was given by President Lightowler in Tom Riedman’s absence shared information that grant applications to improve shore rehabilitation are available.

Dennis Erdle reported that electrofishing will be done this week. DNR has completed the gill netting. Walleye was 30 gill nets as compared to 26 gillnets last time.

The Cormorant Classic Walleye Tournament will be held Sept. 20 and 21.

Joe reported that Jim Wolters is our new DNR head of fisheries in the Detroit Lakes Area.

Sam Blattenbauer reported that Spring Fling is June 20, 2009.

Ben Hushka reported that there currently are 375 members in the Cormorant Lake Association as compared with 349 members last year. There are 700 properties including vacant lots on Big Cormorant.

Membership and Beach Captain responsibilities will now be split with Jason Roth taking over the Beach Captain duties. North Shore East is the only Beach with no Beach Captain. Donna Demars was suggested as a possibility.

Sharon Olson reported that water testing will be completed in September with a report ready for January Board meeting.

Sam Blattenbauer reported that we still have a little over 1 case of mugs for sale.

Joe reported on The Foundation in Jim Colbert’s absence. The fisheries fund has $884.34, The general fund has $2,310.54 with a total of $3,194.88.

Jim Shaw volunteered to take care of buoy placement in the spring and removal and storage in the fall. It was suggested that 2 new buoys be ordered at an approximate cost of $200.00 per buoy but action was tabled until closer to spring.

Ellis Peterson submitted a report from the Watershed Board regarding the problem with the curly leaf pond weed. A survey will be done by the Watershed to determine action against the wee. Cost of weed killer application is $300-$500 per acre.

Approval is pending for permission from the DNR to run the culvert wide open throughout the winter.

Visitor Tom Stuverud attended the Board meeting to voice concern regarding high water on Big Cormorant. A lengthy discussion followed.

Open water signs will be placed by Rick Olson.

Sam moved to pay $700.00 COLA dues. Dennis seconded. Motion carried.

Directories will be made available to all Board members for distribution as needed.

Jim Shaw shared plans his 25 acre property. He will keep the Board informed of any future plans for development.

The next Board meeting will be Saturday , January 24, 2008 at 10:00 am at The Pub.

Lyle moved to adjourn meeting. Joe adjourned.
