Board Meeting Minutes - June 16, 2012
 
   
 

 

The meeting was called to order by President Joe Lightowler at 10:01 a.m. in the Cormorant Community Center.

Board Members present: Merle Zimmerman, Randy Christianson, Ramona Borke, Darlene Hammond, Tom Riedman, Paula Stromstad, Paula Wilson, Rhonda Wilson, Jim Colbert, Carol Anhorn, Joe Lightowler, Sam Blattenbauer, Steve Busch, and Lyle Hansen.

Minutes were approved as read by Secretary Sharon Olson.

Treasurers report was read by Randy Christianson . Report was approved and filed.

Ben Hushka moved to unanimously approve election of officers Randy Christianson, Jim Colbert, Rhonda Wilson, Carol Anhorn and Ramona Borke. Sherwood Peterson seconded. Motion passed. Jim Colbert gave a report on the Foundation and encouraged continued donations to help maintain lake quality.

Bruce Ansbach, DNR Representative in charge of the Landing inspectors informed the group that we have 1000 hours allotted for inspection on Big Cormorant. A decontamination unit is no utilized at the Landings. He provided an update on Zebra Mussels and informed the Association of grants written by local government that enabled the hiring of personnel to man the Landings. A volunteer program is also in place in the Detroit Lakes area. For more information go to the DNR Website and do an invasive species search.

Barry Nelson, Becker County Commissioner, gave an overview of Commission projects. COLA has been very active in the fight against Zebra Mussels. Marty Wylie is Resource Managers Head, and Mariah Rufer is AIS Coordinator.

Steve Carlson, McIntosh, has been hired as Assessor and a grant is presently being written for the hiring of a Shoreland Specialist.

A new ordinance is in place allowing larger buildings on a property and allowing accessory buildings to be used for company. They can not be used as a rental.

Jack Koland from the Lions Club informed the Association of the upcoming Camp Kase fishing outing on July 26th. They are short of pontoons for the outing . If anyone is willing to allow use of pontoons it would be appreciated. He also requested that aluminum cans be donated to the Lions. $5000.00 is raised yearly with aluminums.

Cody Bouschie, Becker County Water sheriff, updated current water rules. Call the sheriff’s office with anyone watercraft complaints. Most complaints involve jet skiers.

Jeff Moritz, Watershed Commissioner, informed the Association of current watershed projects. The Bluewater Bay Access has been cleared and will be kept open. The annual information meeting held by the Watershed is scheduled for July 21, 2012. The agreement with Pelican Lake regarding the discharge of water from the outlet has expired. A new agreement is in the making. The Website for the Watershed is: www.CormorantWatershed.org.

Steve Busch gave the DNR Fisheries report. Gill netting this year showed a healthy walleye reproduction. A written report on both gill netting and electrofishing is filed.

Joe shared information received from Jim Wolters informing of a test in progress to determine the reason for numerous mud puppies found dead. Results are not yet available.

Water levels to date are 9.96 inches below ordinary high water. The highest level was 19 in. above ordinary high water.

Sam Blattenbauer reported that 6 new buoys with lights on top have been purchased - 4 by the Association and 2 by the Foundation. Butch is the contact person if problems occur. His phone number is on the buoys.

Jim Colbert reported that the Boat Parade will be July 4th at 11:00 a.m. beginning from the North Landing.

Jack Koland congratulated the Board for its good work.
