Board Meeting Minutes - January 6, 2007

The meeting was called to order by President Joe Lightowler at 10:03 am at the Pub.

Members present:  Blattenbauer, Busch, Colbert, Erdle, Geiger, Hansen, Hushka, Lightowler, Ohman, Olson, Spanjers, Smith, and Wilson. Guest:  Karen Terry, Regional Extension Education, Water Resource Management and Policy.

Minutes of the September 9, 2006 meeting were approved as emailed.

A written Treasurer’s Report was submitted by Greg Pung. The balance is $24,506.02.

Karen Terry explained the procedure for learning how to protect and improve water quality while maintaining a healthy and attractive shoreline. She recommends beginning with basic information provided by a one-day introduction workshop at a cost of $500.00 and sponsored by the lake association.

Dave Spanjers suggested that Board members attend the shoreline improvement planting at the Jeff Moritz residence to acquaint members with the process and better enable the Board to introduce it at the annual meeting. Karen will notify Joe Lightowler when a date is established. Joe will notify Board members.

Dave Spanjers, Dennis Erdle and Steve Busch would like to continue monitoring the Northern spawning in the spring but would like to partner with the Sportsman Club to share the duties of placing nets and providing needed materials. They stated that even monitoring on a limited basis would be beneficial. Joe will attend the next Sportsman Club meeting to explain and ask for support and report to Dave, Dennis and Steve.

The Cola report was unavailable due to the absence of Tom Riedman.

Sam Blattenbauer reported Spring Fling is June 16, 2007 at the Cormorant Community Center.

Jim Colbert reported that the annual boat parade will be July 4, 2007 at 11:00 am at the Landing.

Lyle Hansen reported that the Watershed people are doing aerials to check septic systems.

Rhonda Wilson continues to work with Curt Kensok of Bluesteel to change website system. The goal is to revamp the calendar, get the database on the website, enable easy access to other sites e.g. Cormorant Township Board, Lake Eunice Township Board, Watershed, etc. if available.

Ben Hushka was able to purchase the disc of Big Cormorant residents from the County Assessor to aid in updating our mailing list of BCLA members for $75.00. According to the County, Big Cormorant has 750 listings as compared with our database which shows 600.

Avis Ohman has a resident list from Bluewater Bay with 47 names and addresses for the Bluewater Bay Lake Association. There are 63 residents, but not all are eligible for the Bluewater Bay Lake Association. It was suggested that we encourage their membership in BCLA.

Beach captains are needed for several beaches. Give any information and suggestions to Avis.

Rick Olson will continue water testing for the 2007 season.

Sam Blattenbauer will check on sweatshirts and other items to be made available at Spring Fling.

Volunteers are needed to place shallow water markers.

Sam Blattenbauer reported that the open water signs are ready to place.

Steve Busch requested information on the function of our culvert as a water outlet. Joe explained that the DNR has total control over water release.

The next BCLA Board meeting is scheduled March 31, 2007 at 9:00 at The Pub.
