The meeting was called to order by President Joe Lightowler at 10:05 at the Cormorant
Township Hall.
Board members were introduced. Members present: Sam Blattenbauer, Jim Colbert,
Rhonda Wilson, Sharon Olson, Steve Busch, Tom Riedman, Paula Stromstad, Reuben
Tschritter, Randy Christianson, Carol Anhorn, Darlene Hammond, Joe Lightowler, and
Merle Zimmerman.
The minutes were approved as read by Secretary Sharon Olson.
Treasurers report was approved as read by Randy Christianson..
Warren Wilson, Big Cormorant Sailing Club and Pelican Yacht Club, asked that anyone
interested in sailing contact either him or Joe Lightowler. You can join the Club without
participating in sailing.
Sheriff Tim Gordon gave an update on use of PFD’s. He informed members that most
complaints received by his department are related to rudeness and lack of consideration
issues. Adult and children’s videos are available online to educate and update current
boating rules.
Tracy Hanson, DNR, reported on the aquatic invasive species, flowering rush, Eurasian
milfoil and zebra mussels. Zebra mussel samples were passed to members. If mussels are
found they should be immediately reported to the DNR. No water is allowed to be
transported from lake to lake. A temperature of 110 degrees is need to kill the mussels.
President Joe added that the BCLA and the Foundation have partnered to pay for
inspections at both boat landings.
Barry Nelson, Becker County Commissioner, updated happenings in Becker County.
Resurfacing will begin on several county roads. The County has joined with Perham
Incinerator and will implement dumpsters to replace recycle sheds to made recycling
more user friendly. A recreation plan will soon be added to the county website to provide
information on recreation happenings.
Ellis Peterson, President of Cormorant Watershed District updated members on water
quality issues. Meetings are held the 1st Monday of the month and are open to the public.
Jim Bergeson of the Audubon Fire Dept. requested a donation from the BCLA to
purchase new hose for fire engines. Merle Hanson moved to donate $1000.00 and Bob
Hoss seconded. Motion carred.
Sam Blattenbauer explained the new system for the buoys and explained to members why
they were late getting in this year..
Rueben Tschritter reported on the Healthy Lakes and Rivers Grant. A grant of $5000.00
has been approved the sponsor a meeting and get a plan in place. The meeting will be
held August 7, 2010 at 10:00 am in the Cormorant Township Hall.
Carla Blattenbauer, reported that the next directory will be printed in May 2011 and
distributed at the 2011 Spring Fling. December 31, 2010 is the deadline date for ad
placement..
Jim Colbert moved to accept the present slate of directors. Ellis Peterson seconded.
Motion carried.\
Carol Anhorn informed the Beach Captains that they should contact residents on their
respective beaches and be sure names and addresses are correct..
