Below are the comments from Dave Friedl of the DNR after the recently completed Gill Netting on Big Cormorant Lake.

Thank you for the comments.  We were very happy but not really surprised to find a very healthy walleye population in Big Cormorant Lake.  It continues to be one of the very best in our management area.  Hopefully the fishing will pick up when forage abundance takes a dip.  We finished the netting after setting 12 gill nets over five days (four pulling days and one setting day).  Attached are some summary statistics and a graph of the size distribution of walleyes sampled.  The size distribution looked great and there appears to be a very strong young year class in the 10 - 11 inch size range which are probably age two fish.  We sampled 319 walleyes from 7 to 28 inches.  The gill net catch rate was 26.6 walleyes per net and the average size was 15.2 inches.
